Our Milwaukee Substance Abuse Treatment Center
At Roots Recovery, our main substance abuse treatment center is housed in a beautiful, remodeled mansion on the Lake Michigan waterfront on the Lower East Side of Milwaukee. From the very first time you step into our treatment center, you’ll feel welcome.
While the building has been updated, it has retained its historical charm. With larger windows that allow plenty of natural light, beautiful colonial woodwork and original fixtures throughout, and serene décor in every room, our treatment facility was designed to be warm and welcoming to everyone who comes in.
Our substance abuse treatment facility contains the spaces where our clients can work on themselves and build their foundation for recovery. It has a library with resources about overcoming addiction and living a healthy life in recovery. The second floor holds each of our therapists’ offices. This is also the space where clients will partake in one-on-one counseling, while larger, private offices are used for family counseling sessions. We also have spacious rooms dedicated to group therapy, where clients can bond and grow together in recovery.
Our Gender-Specific Milwaukee Sober Living Houses
We understand the importance of healing with others who have had similar experiences, and we also believe that recovery is supported by access to clean and comfortable living spaces. Fellowship, comfort, safety, and responsibility are the foundations of our men’s and women’s sober living houses in Milwaukee.
Our sober living houses are furnished comfortably, and located in an accessible and interesting neighborhood in Milwaukee. We are situated close to the UW Milwaukee campus, where many people in the neighborhood are students living in shared spaces, and our group is one of many living and working together.

Men’s Sober Living Homes
We have two sober living options for our male residents: a converted two-family home and a converted three-family home, with two and three full kitchens, respectively. Many of our residents share a bedroom with one other individual, and have access to a backyard space that makes spending time outside enjoyable.
Omens Sober Living Home
Women residents live in our two-story, multi-unit house. With hardwood floors, two full kitchens, on-site laundry, and comfortable furniture, our women’s sober living home is a warm place to begin your recovery journey. Like our men’s homes, the women’s space has shared bedrooms and a backyard for outdoor activities and relaxing.
Alumni Housing
Residents at Roots Recovery Houses have the option of staying in our Alumni Houses upon successful completion of primary addiction care when they are interested in extending their time in a sober peer environment.
Women and men living in our Alumni Houses can continue counseling while living in a supportive place where everyone is working to establish healthy new routines and strengthen their independent living skills. Alumni House residents buy their own food and maintain the same responsibilities as if they lived in a traditional apartment or home, while enjoying the continued benefits of living with a house manager and peers focused on recovery
